The migratory flows among the countries of the Pacific Alliance: 2005-2019

Abstract

One of the priorities of the agreement of the Pacific Alliance since its creation, was to favor the movement of businessmen and facilitate the transit of people, including migratory cooperation and the police consular. To that extent, this article, which is part of a broader investigation, has as its main objective a description of the migratory flows among the countries that make up the Pacific Alliance in the period 2005-2019, to verify if the agreement achieved or not any incidence in the increase of migrations between the member countries. In methodological terms, a descriptive statistical analysis is carried out, for which the data set from the International Migrant Stock of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs is taken as a reference (This database provides estimates of the stock of international migrants by age, sex and origin for the middle of the year, in this case July 1, considering the period 1990-2019). The results show a differential behavior among the countries, since the effects of the Pacific Alliance on migratory flows are more accentuated in some than in others.
