Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to show in a general way several aspects of the background of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC Mexico), the factors that led to the creation of an institution of this nature and its evolution through time. It also seeks to review in recent periods the capacity of this body to carry out its primary functions, some of the legal tools at its disposal and their use, as well as its various institutional strategies over the years, not to mention the closeness of this body with political power. Throughout the document, different actions are also pointed out that over time have created a Commission not only with failures but also with successes in fulfilling its central purpose: the safeguarding of people's rights.
